The Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, confirmed his resignation from the position on Tuesday afternoon at the Palácio do Planalto after discussing with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT). This occurs slightly more than a month before the COP30 (UN Conference on Climate Change).
Sabino had informed Lula in advance that he would resign from his position due to pressure from the party, as reported by the Times Brazil. Recently, the Brazilian Union, where Sabino serves as a federal deputy, declared their exit from the government coalition and instructed their members to resign from appointed positions within 24 hours.
“I spoke with the President of the Republic today as part of my party’s decision to exit the government. I am here today to carry out my responsibilities,” he told the media.
He finished by stating that he handed the president his letter and request to resign from the Ministry of Tourism in accordance with his party’s decision.
Celso Sabino, a native of Pará, announced that he will continue to carry out ministerial duties with Lula. They will both be present in Belém next Friday (3) for the inauguration of the COP30 projects.
The president requested my presence at the upcoming project delivery in Bethlehem next Thursday. I will be attending as a minister.
Sabino assumed the role of Minister of Tourism in July 2023 and will certainly step down once this duty is fulfilled.
House at COP30 approves a symbolic government seat in Bethlehem.
The Chamber of Deputies voted in favor of a project allowing the symbolic relocation of the federal capital to Belém during the COP30 event in November. The bill will now be reviewed by the Senate.
The Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary branches can temporarily relocate to Bethlehem for official government activities.
Acts and decrees signed by the President of the Republic and ministers during that time will have their dates indicated based on the municipality.
